Open Building and Lean Construction are Third Wave knowledge areas that unavoidably result in a dedicated way of looking at the world and structuring thoughts. I have written many notes and I continue to do so, on subjects regarding the built environment and the way it is built, used and maintained. These notes on the built environment are connected by the underlying way of thinking. Hyperlinks allow us to make these connections operational. Following these treads in turn can generate new insights.

Concept House is the academic environment at the Delft University of Technology, that accommodates and evaluates the development of an industrially made mass customized house. Is the Concept House a house for People Like Us? Or is it a system independent from its appearance and can it serve many more markets than the market for PLU?
In order to better understand Concept House’s context and to determine its borders, we can learn from similar initiatives, prototypes, innovations in mass customization, product development, new materials, production and construction techniques. Concept House can learn from academic initiatives, some having resulted in prototypes and from mass customized houses that have proven to be successful. Concept House has identified a series of industrialized houses that have failed but can count on the sympathy of designers. Why do they fascinate and why did they fail? Catalogue homes are homes that can be selected from a catalogue. By its nature they have a high degree of pre-planning and their own degree of pre-fabrication. Project homes are built on request and kit homes are delivered on site as a DIY kit.

This website collects interesting thoughts. It was built for personal reference, however those of you who have found this place are invited to wander through these thoughts. The nature of my daily working environment explains why some notes are in the Dutch language.

Your comments are very much appreciated.
